Dr. SHAZIA FARAH KADER MUNGLY
Dr Shazia Mungly graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. She completed her internship and worked for over one year as a resident medical doctor in a private clinic in Mauritius. During her community service at Edendale Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, she obtained her diploma in mental health. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in dermatology from Queen Mary University, London. She then completed her specialist training in psychiatry at the University of Cape Town. She is a fellow of the College of Medicine of South Africa and has a Masterâs degree in Psychiatry from the University of Cape Town.
She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the Medical Council of Mauritius as an independent specialist psychiatrist. She is also registered as a general practitioner with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom.
Her special interests are mood, anxiety, psychotic, trauma stress related disorders and womenâs mental health.
She is undergoing training in pain management and has completed three out of six modules for a Certificate in Pain Management by Train Pain Academy, South Africa.
She attended workshops in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia, Dielectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT Institute of South Africa) and in Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
She is completing a course in Womenâs Mental Health with Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
At Monash University, she has also passed the theoretical examinations for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) . TMS will provide an innovative treatment where other medical treatment for depression has failed.
She is a certified BrainWorking Recursive Therapist (BWRT Level 2) which is an innovative new concept of psychotherapy developed by Terence Watts in the United Kingdom.
She uses a multimodal approach which includes psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and electro modulation. Electro modulation includes Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (coming soon) and Intravenous ketamine with a GP anaesthetist.
She believes in individualised, holistic, and evidence-based care to promote healing and personal recovery of a patient in a therapeutic milieu.
Dr. Shazia is fluent in both English and French and provides consultations in both languages.
